What Makes the Studio
Work

Every feature was designed around how the exams actually test — not how other prep programs study them.

01 📋

Real Case Study Format

NCMHCE cases unfold the way the real exam does — full client demographics, multi-session narratives, sequential questions across all 5 domains. This isn't a question bank. It's a clinical story.

  • Client demographics block on every case
  • Intake → Session 1 → Session 2 reveal structure
  • 10 clinical questions spanning all 5 domains
  • Full rationale on every answer — right or wrong
02 📖

Deep Accordion Guides

Not just bullet lists. Each of the 13 study guides (5 NCMHCE domains + 8 NCE content areas) has expandable sections with full explanations, term-by-term breakdowns, comparison tables, and exam tips.

  • All 8 Erikson stages with virtues and clinical notes
  • All 11 Yalom curative factors explained
  • Full Holland RIASEC with congruence and SDS
  • ACA Code all 8 sections, Kitchener's 6 principles
03 🃏

Mastery-Tracked Flashcards

120+ cards across both exams — filterable by domain or content area, shuffleable, and rated Hard / Got It / Easy. Mastered cards automatically update your progress bars.

  • 72+ NCMHCE clinical cards (DSM-5-TR, ACA, EBTs)
  • 50+ NCE theory cards (all major theorists)
  • Domain and area filters + shuffle mode
  • Mastery automatically updates dashboard bars
04 📊

Separate Progress Trackers

Each exam has its own dashboard with mastery bars, activity log, case/quiz history, and study tips based on your weakest areas. Your progress is saved automatically between sessions.

  • NCMHCE: 5 domain mastery bars + case history
  • NCE: 8 content area mastery bars + quiz history
  • Daily study streak counter across both exams
  • Personalized tips based on lowest mastery areas

🎓

First-Time Test Takers

Just finished your supervised hours? Get fluent in the exact case-study format before exam day. The Studio walks you through every clinical decision with full rationale — so you understand the reasoning, not just the answer.

🔄

Retakers

Know what tripped you up the first time? Use domain-specific flashcards and guides to zero in on exactly where you lost points. Separate trackers for NCMHCE and NCE mean you can focus on the exam that needs work.

Busy Working Clinicians

Studying between sessions? The Studio is designed for 20–30 minutes a day — run a case study, flip through flashcards, read a guide section. Consistent beats marathon. Every tool works on mobile.

Your Study Routine

20 Minutes.
Every Day.

A simple repeatable loop — one for NCMHCE, one for NCE — that builds exam-ready thinking one session at a time.

01

Open Your Weakest Domain or Area

Start with the domain or content area where your mastery bar is lowest. Read the guide, expand the sections, absorb the exam tip before you quiz yourself.

02

Run the Flashcards

Filter to that domain or area. Rate honestly. Hard cards rotate back in; Easy cards build your mastery percentage. 15–20 cards is enough for one session.

03

Work a Case Study or Quiz

NCMHCE: run one full case (10 questions). NCE: run a Quick Quiz (10 Qs). Read every rationale — even when you're right. That's the learning.

04

Check the Tracker

Lowest bar = tomorrow's starting point. Repeat until every domain and content area is green. That's exam-ready.

"The NCMHCE isn't hard because the content is impossible. It's hard because nothing prepares you for sitting with a full clinical narrative and making a high-stakes decision under pressure. And the NCE is hard because there's just so much to know. I built this studio because I wanted both of those problems solved in one place."

Why This Exists

People Had Questions.
I Had Answers.

Before there was a Studio, there were comment sections. Counselors asking where to start, what to study, which resources actually worked. I kept showing up with the same answers — because I'd done the work, passed the NCE, and knew what mattered. Eventually I stopped typing the same thing into comment boxes and started building this instead.

A real exchange — names blurred to protect privacy

Thank you so much for responding. I am currently using the Encyclopedia of Counseling Third Edition. I will definitely incorporate the tools you suggested.

What material are you using? I used the Behavioral Health Pocket Prep for 2 months and thought it was the best guide to use prior to taking the NCE — and passed first attempt.

But to answer your question:
1. Know the concepts more than anything.
2. Know the modalities.
3. Know as much as you can about Group process.

The test has multiple versions, and questions can be asked in ways not necessarily outlined in study guides. For instance — In person-centered counseling, both ______ and ______ are vital. Goals and therapeutic alliance are vital parts of person-centered counseling.

All the Best!
"I kept showing up in comment sections because the answers mattered. The Studio is that same conversation — just better organized." — Doreatha Page, LPC, NCC
Questions

Frequently Asked

Does this cover both the NCMHCE and the NCE?

Yes — the Studio has two completely separate sections. The NCMHCE side has case studies, 5 domain guides, and clinical flashcards. The NCE side has practice quiz questions, 8 content area guides with accordion dropdowns, and theory flashcards. One subscription, both exams.

Is this aligned with the current exam content outlines?

Yes. Both the NCMHCE and NCE sections are built around the current NBCC content outlines — 5 domains for the NCMHCE, 8 CACREP content areas for the NCE. Content is drawn from the ACA Code of Ethics, DSM-5-TR, and core counseling theory texts.

How is this different from other prep programs?

Most programs give you question banks. The Studio gives you full clinical narratives for the NCMHCE — one client, one story, questions across all sessions — which is actually how the exam works. For the NCE, the content area guides go far deeper than typical flashcard decks.

How much time should I study each day?

20–30 minutes is the sweet spot. Run a case study or quiz, flip through flashcards, read one guide section. The Studio is designed for consistent daily practice — not marathon cramming sessions. There's a streak counter to keep you going.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes — the Studio is fully mobile-responsive and works on any device. Open it in your phone's browser and it adjusts to your screen. A dedicated mobile app is in development.

Is new content added regularly?

Yes. New case studies, flashcards, quiz questions, and guide content are added regularly. Your subscription always gives you the latest version — everything included, no add-on purchases.

What if I only need one exam?

That's completely fine — the exams are in separate sections of the studio. If you only need the NCMHCE or only the NCE, just use that section. The $5/month covers both, so you get everything regardless.

What if I have questions about the content?

Email us directly. You're studying with a licensed counselor — not a support ticket system. Questions about clinical content, study strategy, or anything else are always welcome.
